Fundraising :

Most of our funds come from many of the volunteers who have entered professional life after volunteering for years or months in our projects. They continually support us and form the backbone of our activities. Also, we have received grants for special projects as the one in Jamaica, Haiti and other parts of the world.

-Youth programs in the US (sponsor innercity youth)

-Book-donations for India (textbooks & container shipping)

-Education programs Haiti (computers & desks)

-Health programs Haiti (medicines & communication - radios for emergency etc., sports equipment)

-Youth programs in the US (sponsor innercity youth) :

1.) We are currently looking for sponsors for a boy's camp who could sponsor 20 boys at $ 250 each for a 7 day adventure camp in the summer. We do have requests from Big Brothers / Big Sisters New York to hold summer camps provided they get sponsored, since they cannot afford the tuition.

2.) We also offer the Spiritual warrior /rites of passage weekend training program for at-risk youths and juvenile ex-offenders but we gratiously need help to do it. Tuition runs at $100 just to cover our expenses.

-Book-donations for India (textbooks & container shipping)

We need sponsors for our assistance to students and libraries in India, Jamaica, Haiti and central america. We like to ship one container of textbooks to a university in rural west-Bengal, which will cost about $2500.

-Education programs Haiti (computers & desks)

AMURT has started an ambitious program for the rehabilitation of 3schools and the building of a highschool in the Anse Rouge district as well as upgrading 2 schools in Port-au-Prince.

We would need 100 computers that would be divided amongst the 2 schools in Port-au-Prince and for one library cum internet center in Anse Rouge district.

We would also appreciate any donation of chairs with foldable tables (as one unit) since they are very practical and save space and materials.

-Health programs Haiti (medicines & communication - radios for emergency etc., sports equipment)

General medicines that a nurse practitioner would be comfortable using are welcome. Herbal tinctures and the like are also appreciated.

VHF communication systems:

Medical centers and boat communication:

We need to connect 3 medical centers and an off-shore boat to a radio system:

We need 6 X 25 watt VHF systems (3 medical centers + coordinating office + boat + truck) and 3 handheld units for the workcrews. Also the coordinating office could be used as a repeater station and possibly use a 50 or 100 watt unit.

One 30 ft. antenna would be helpful to make sure the signal is spread wide enough.

For preventive health care and experiential education of the youth, sports equipment of any kind is needed:

To run the experiential education program in Haiti, we need a regular supply of volleyballs, soccerballs (European footballs) and basketballs as well as nets and even funds to support the teams.

5.) We can put the name of the sponsor on various teams T-shirts if an amount is pledged that can support the equipment, uniforms and nutritional supplements for a year for one team in Haiti.

Our current estimate runs at:

1.) $2000 for a soccer(european football) team.

2.) $1500 for a volleyball team

3.) $2200 for a basketball team

4.) $2000 for a karate-team (includes supporting an instructor for one year)

To make the team successful a coach would need to be employed and therefore to continue the program into the second year with a tournament ripe team, an additional $2000 would be required per team and it could be expected that the team will achieve significant rankings in the country.

One such project in Nicaragua was highly successfull as within 2 years an AMURT sponsored baseball team rose to the national rankings and was even able to compete equitably with US teams.

6.) Experiential education program for 5 schools in Anse Rouge area / Haiti:

AMURT is planning to improve the educational diversity in a rural area in Haiti. Besides many infrastructural improvements, the most important program is to include outdoor experiential education which has two components:

1.) Learning while observing the environment (GLOBE = Global Learning and Observation Education) is much more stimulating and hands-on rather than sitting in a classroom in front of a teacher lecturing.

10 canoes complete with paddles, lifevests to do trips out to sea = $700 each = $7000

2.) Value education and character-building through experiential education. More and more schools recognize the importance of leadership, team-building and self-assertiveness training.

Both programs need various implements which to a great degree can be obtained locally, but we would like to build an infrastructure that will remain after the program is over.

a) Climbing walls complete with ropes, harnesses and various shoes sizes:

4 sets of ropes, harnesses, carabiners and 8 rings for belaying = $250 per set = $1000

4 sets of climbing elements = $150 each = $600

plywood, poles, cement, sand and labour to build climbing tower w. 4 walls: $1000

b) Low ropes course :

Depending on locally available materials a course can be built anywhere from $500 to $2000.

c) High ropes course elements:

-One main element would be to erect two poles that can also serve as flagpoles if they are not used... Inbetween these two poles various challenges can be built:

2 sets of ropes, harnesses, carabiners and 8 rings for belaying =$250 per set = $500

Foundation, ironpole with cross-bar and steps to climb including engineering, labour and transportation costs : $1000 each = $2000

Various ropes and other elements for climbing/jumping;

$400.
