Truck with Reliefgoods finally reached Haiti after 4 month ordeal...
It took me many weeks to drive the truck to the east coast, loading it with computers and old clothes and then winding my way down to Miami. I stopped over in many places collecting more supplies such as I did in Raleigh where we were loading old ambulance supplies. Finally when I was reaching Miami, more toys and clothes were collected by Shamita who works with mother Theresa association. After dispatching the vehicle, storms and a boat breakdown of the shipping company delayed the shipping for more than 4 months, a trip that takes only 4 days max. Lucky ! Because it allowed me to additionally load the computers and fill the truck to the very top... FINALLY THE TRUCK REACHED MID SEPTEMBER. IT TOOK 2 WEEKS TO CLEAR IT, IT BROKE DOWN RIGHT THERE AND THEN TOOK ONE MONTH TO OFFLOAD IT... A truck a simple technicality...wrong! It has a computerized fuel supply. Lots of battery re-charge / de-charge offsets these sensitive devices. We bought a new Throttle position sensor (TPS)-- to no avail -- same problem. The truck starts, but then it does not accelerate. INTERNATIONAL CONNOISSEURS PLEASE HELP WITH THIS TECHNICAL PROBLEM - HERE THEY DON'T KNOW THIS TYPE OF ENGINE SYSTEM...Its a 1999 4700 International 14 ft. box truck. Contact mark@vssnet.org Meanwhile we had to offload the cargo...90 computers and monitors. In small batches to avoid breaking of the screens. Finally after one month everything is falling into place.
COMPUTERS ARE BEING PROGRAMMED FOR DISPATCH TO OTHER LOCATIONS... by the director of the Informatics section of CENEOH - Haiti, Cesar Renand and volunteer staff from the school.
Happy students posing in front of their new machines...

To know french helps, but in dealing with the local people one will have to learn creole which has some french words but is altogether different. People who have experience in construction, biology, education or medical treatments are welcome. For details on the ongoing programs best to e-mail coordinator@NHEhaiti.org or mark@vssnet.org phone is more difficult but early morning is best : (509)-415-1544 Mark or (509)526 |
